inpatient medical detoxification

Medical Detoxification Phase

At Pacific Coast Recovery Center, we understand that one of the most difficult decisions facing those with chemical dependency is to enter treatment, rather than just remain a prisoner to the alcohol or chemicals that have been governing every part of their lives.
During the initial admission assessment, each patient is evaluated for medical detoxification needs, as well as other co-occurring medical conditions which may affect the safety and effectiveness of the detoxification process.  During this critical stage of treatment, patients are seen daily by Daniel J. Headrick, MD, an ASAM certified addictionist, who has detoxed over 9000 patients during 20 years of experience in family practice and addiction medicine. Each patient is also assigned a Primary Counselor who serves as a case manager who follows the patient through each phase of treatment from admission to discharge. In addition, Registered Nurses are present 24 hours a day to provide continuous assessment and symptom management. Within the acute care hospital setting of South Coast Medical Center, patients who require a higher level of medical care have the immediate availability and expertise of medical specialists for consultation and treatment services.  Detoxing patients are encouraged to participate in programmatic activities as tolerated, with staff remaining constantly available to provide all the support, education, love and nurturing necessary for this healing and cleansing process.  As all patients present with unique circumstances and characteristics, the length of the detoxification process is variable and can be dependent upon age, overall health, current medical conditions, as well as the type of drug, frequency and duration of use.  For patients who are detoxing from opiates such as Vicodin (Hydrocodone), Oxycontin (Oxycodone), Methadone or Heroin, a Buprenorphine (Subutex®) detoxification regime is initiated to safely and comfortably manage withdrawal symptoms. Using the most advanced medical techniques for all types of detoxification, Pacific Coast Recovery Center provides the safest and most comfortable detoxification available.
